Father’s Day in Sonoma: Where to Take Dad This Sunday

Father’s Day falls on Sunday, June 21 this year, sharing the calendar with the longest day of the year. Around Sonoma, that means a handful of ways to spend it — a slow brunch, a winery with classic cars on the lawn, or a morning among rescued farm animals.

This is a City of Sonoma list, kept short on purpose. A few things are worth booking ahead, so we’ve noted what to reserve and roughly what it costs.

Brunch, the easy way

El Dorado Kitchen on the Plaza is running an extended brunch from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a seasonal menu and cocktail specials. Every dad leaves with a hand-packaged chocolate hammer or wrench. Reservations are recommended. 405 First St. W.

Buena Vista Winery is hosting a buffet brunch with live music from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in its fountain courtyard, with food prepared by HopMonk — farm-egg casserole, house-smoked sausage, cheeseburger sliders, citrus salad, and pastries. Tickets are $125 per person, $100 for club members, and $30 for kids 12 and under, booked through Tock. 18000 Old Winery Road.

Wine, cars, and a little room to roam

Larson Family Winery brings back its Dads, Cabs & Cars celebration from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. — classic cars displayed around the property, live music from guitarist Kendrick Fielder, and the HopMonk food truck on site. Entry is $10 and free with a wine tasting reservation; kids and non-drinkers get in free. There’s a bocce court, so it’s an easy one for families. 23355 Millerick Road.

Honrama Cellars is marking the day at its Sonoma tasting room from noon to 3 p.m. The winery, founded by the Puentes family, has said more details are coming, so check ahead before you go. 22985 A Burndale Road.

Something different: a morning with the animals

Charlie’s Acres, the nonprofit farm-animal sanctuary off Napa Road, is offering special Father’s Day tours both Saturday and Sunday, June 20–21. The 90-minute walks run at times between 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. and introduce visitors to the sanctuary’s residents and their rescue stories. Tickets are $26.50 for adults and $15.90 for kids 12 and under. 3201 Napa Road.

If dinner is more his speed

Wit & Wisdom at the Lodge at Sonoma is running a Father’s Day dinner with a special menu, including a steak Oscar — filet topped with Dungeness crab and béarnaise — at $95, and a “Father Time” cocktail at $18. Reservations recommended. 1325 Broadway.

Worth Knowing Before You Go

Whatever Father’s Day looks like for your family — a courtyard brunch, a folding chair beside a ’65 Mustang, or a goat saying hello on Napa Road — there’s a version of it happening close to home this weekend.
