My biggest tip for first timers: don't go out too fast in Napa just because you feel great and the adrenaline is high. I made that mistake and suffered through the last four miles. Pace yourself and enjoy the vineyard views while you still can.
Race weekend brings so much life to downtown Sonoma. The music at the Rosé 5k especially — last year the playlist was actually great and the whole Plaza felt like a festival. More events like this please.
I cheered from the same corner near the Plaza for the last five years. You start to recognize the expressions on people's faces when they realize they're almost done. It never gets old. Might actually sign up to run it myself this time.
Tempo runs along Sonoma's trails are legitimately some of the best running you can do in this part of the state. Even outside of race training it's worth getting out there on a weekend morning before it warms up.
I do the Rosé 5k every year just for the vibe. I am not a runner by any stretch of the imagination but this event makes me feel like one for about 45 minutes and honestly that's all I need. See you at the Plaza this July.
Really glad local restaurants get a boost from this. Race weekends can feel chaotic but the money staying in town and going to local spots makes it all feel worth the extra noise and the parking craziness.
The rolling hills in Sonoma are gorgeous to look at and absolutely punishing to run. Nobody warned me when I did my first half that the back half of the course has more climb than it looks on paper. Train for the hills people!
We've been coming up from the Bay Area for this race weekend for four years straight. Always book a hotel in Sonoma and make a whole getaway out of it. The town does a great job making visitors feel welcome, not just like race numbers.
I ran my personal best on this course two years ago. Something about the crowd energy and the scenery just pushes you through even when your legs want to quit. Already signed up for this July and hoping to beat that time.
As someone who works in the wine industry around here, it's really cool that the half-marathon route goes through vineyards. Kind of showcases what makes this whole region special. Tourists get to experience the landscape in a unique way.
Anyone know if strollers are allowed in the Rosé 5k? I'd love to bring my toddler along but want to make sure before we show up. Seems like a family-friendly event based on how it's described.
Growing up here I used to think the race weekend was just a traffic headache. Now that I actually run I totally see it differently. There's a community pride thing that hits you when you cross that finish line at the Plaza. Hard to describe.
Hydration is no joke on this course, especially if July is as warm as last year. There were moments during my run where I really wished I'd carried my own water instead of relying only on the aid stations. Learn from my mistake.
The Rosé 5k is where it's at if you ask me. Showed up last year expecting just a casual jog and it turned into a whole afternoon celebration on the Plaza. Didn't even feel like a race — more like a moving party.
Law enforcement and volunteers on that course are genuinely underappreciated. I've run it twice and they're out there for hours keeping everything moving safely. Someone should really give them a shoutout on race day.
First time doing the half this July and I'm nervous. Been following a training plan for about 10 weeks now. The advice about mixing distance runs with tempo work is spot on — started doing that and I feel way more prepared.
I always start in Napa and the feeling of running through wine country at 7am with the fog still lifting off the vineyards is something I genuinely look forward to all year. There's no race quite like it for scenery.
The economic impact angle is real. My cousin owns a small shop near the Plaza and she said race weekend is one of her top weekends of the whole year for sales. Events like this actually matter to small businesses around here.
I've been doing tempo runs on the trails near Sonoma for the past month getting ready for this. The rolling hills are no joke as training ground. My legs are complaining but my pace is finally improving so I'll take it.
Has anyone tried the new cafes near the finish line? Curious which ones are worth hitting up post-race or post-cheering. I always default to the same spots but sounds like there are some fresh options this year.
Sonoma Plaza on race weekend is just magic. I set up a chair outside one of the cafes last year and watched runners finish for like two hours. Some of those folks looked like it was the hardest thing they'd ever done. Super inspiring.
Road closures are always my one complaint. I get why they're necessary and I respect what the volunteers do, but trying to get to work early that Saturday is a whole ordeal. Worth it for the town, just gotta plan ahead.
I love the Rosé 5k energy more than the half honestly. It's just a fun vibe — families, music, people in fun outfits. Way less pressure than race day for the half. Great entry point if you've never done a local race before.
Did my first Napa to Sonoma half three years ago and it destroyed me in the best way. Those vineyard miles around mile 8 are gorgeous but brutal when the sun is already up. If you're training for it this year, don't skip your long Sunday runs.
The finish line at Sonoma Plaza is honestly one of the best spots to spectate. There's so much energy when runners come through, and the crowds are always so encouraging. I've stood there cheering for strangers and felt genuinely moved. Anyone else make a tradition of watching from the Plaza?
